• The Contrarian Inconsistent

As the name suggests, the idea is to take an oppositional point of view… but at the end of the day, being a contrarian for contrarians’ sake can be highly unproductive, thus requiring the rebel to be inconsistent in his views.

To extrapolate, the idea behind the blog is to take the stance of the general opposition but switching it up where the author sees fit, often playing both sides of the coin (or dice in some instances) … the coin (or dice) in this case obviously being loaded. Some may be inclined to call the author fickle or even a hypocrite.

So am I a hypocrite? I will respond with two questions ,”Do you like getting hand jobs?”… “Do you like giving hand jobs?”

The Stoic and the Poet

For about 27 years of my life I was convinced that stoicism was the correct life path for me. I shrugged off the skeptics. I played music, but I never felt it. I read poetry but it never moved me. I devoured intellect but did not offer my view-point. I observed emotions but never engaged … Continue reading

“Atheism isn’t an answer, it merely permits the question.” Stevie Ray Fromstein

Consider this: If you want to keep your body in shape, you exercise; if you want to keep our chemicals balanced, you eat properly; if you want to develop a healthy attitude, you learn to exercise patience and learn kindness and compassion; if you want to be a good doctor, you study medicine and keep … Continue reading

The universe sent me…

“Some days you wake and immediately start to worry. Nothing in particular is wrong, it’s just the suspicion that forces are aligning quietly and there will be”trouble.” Unkwown. It was my birthday recently, and it also just happened to be “one of those days”, where it seemed that everything was against me. I woke up … Continue reading

Entropy: A dish best served hot.

Entropy… On a long enough time line the survival rate for everything drops to zero… over time, as a profiteer you realise this, and develop the habit of thinking things through to their logical conclusions… Now entropy has a few definitions (all very similar in theory but varying in description), some to do with thermodynamics, … Continue reading

Life doesn’t discriminate… but people do.

It seems that the biggest favour life pays us is that it is unbiased. When we are faced with a seemingly insurmountable situation we very seldom realise that it is our unwillingness to tackle the situation that presents us with the difficulty. As a result we tend to look outwards as opposed to inwards to … Continue reading

Pendulums

The month preceding this past week seems to have developed along an increasingly steep emotional gradient. I felt that I needed a “time out” from what we consider normal living. So I booked myself into a Buddhist retreat centre for the week. After a seven hour journey I arrived at the misty Natal Midlands retreat … Continue reading

Democracy and choice: What are the options?

I was speaking to my cousin recently and the topic of the upcoming regional elections popped up. He asked me if I had registered to vote. I subsequently informed him that I hadn’t and had no intention of doing so. To which he replied abrasively with a four letter expletive followed by a preposition. I was caught off guard, … Continue reading

Existentialism with a dash of contradiction… a necessary ingredient.

To consider ones self an existentialist, a person must be willing to learn through experience and emotional interaction with other people and things. In order to do this, however, one must be willing to be honest with one’s self… i.e. Up to this point, life has led me to believe what I believe, and I … Continue reading
